Alameda Animal Shelter Builds Eco-Friendly Clinic from Shipping Containers

Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter in East Bay is opening a state-of-the-art spay and neuter clinic using recycled shipping containers. This decision reduced construction costs from $10 million to $2 million while expediting the building process. The facility will include a full surgical suite, exam rooms, and an X-ray unit, all powered by solar energy.
Alameda and Oakland Businesses Targeted in Bold Smash-and-Grab Burglaries

Despite reports that burglaries and robberies are declining in the East Bay, business owners are feeling the impact of a wave of bold crimes. In Oakland, gas station owner Arash Salkhi has been hit multiple times, with thieves stealing cigarettes and attempting to take ATMs. Similar crimes have occurred in Alameda, where burglars have rammed vehicles into stores. Business owners are frustrated by slow police response times and rising insurance costs, with some considering closing their stores if conditions donโt improve.
Last of Its Kind: Martin Mars Water Bomber Lands in Alameda Before Retirement

The Philippine Mars, an 80-year-old Martin Mars water bomber, landed in Alameda over the weekend after an 800-mile journey from British Columbia. As the last operational plane of its kind, it flew over the Golden Gate Bridge before making its final stop in the Bay Area. Originally used by the Navy in WWII, it later became a firefighting aircraft. The plane has now completed its last flight, retiring at the Pima Air & Space Museum in Arizona.
